Experience and Passion

Ramil Kamilov

Owner and Head Coach

A competitive fighter and a Muay-Thai and Kickboxing Coach, I started training in my hometown of Aktau, Kazakhstan. I came up through the mixed martial arts scene in Alberta and now have experience fighting internationally. After training with some of the best athletes and coaches in the world, I developed my own unique and effective teaching methods. I focus on getting your body and mind focused on the game and teaching you to generate power with your strikes while keeping a solid defense.

Classes are taught in English, but for newcomers from Russian speaking countries I can explain techniques in Russian too.

Marina Lapina

Kids kickboxing, head coach of 6-8 year old group.

Early 2000s classic kickboxing competitor on the Russian scene, she was ranked #3 in Russia in the year 2000 in the 48kg/105 lb division.

Being of a smaller weight Marina had to become a technical and smart fighter in order to survive and continue in the sport. She became good at reading her opponents and finding technical deficiencies, timing opponents to get into close range, and being smart and "playing the game of chess" in kickboxing. Being brought up in classic Russian kickboxing her style can be best summarized by fast and swift punch combinations always ending with a well calculated kick (the kick she throws depends on what she opened up with her punches).

Diverse all around striking, mixing up combinations depending on openings, having a wide array of kicks - crescent kicks, side kicks, hook kicks all describe Marina's style of fighting.

Her love for the sport goes outside of fighting, in 2003-2004 she helped organize multiple children’s competitions in her hometown of Novokuznetsk, Russia long before the sport was well known and regulated in the country. Often times competitors nowadays take for granted the opportunities that they have and forget that none of this would be possible without volunteers like Marina that paved the way for the athletes of today.

Marina truly sees the martial art as something outside of just fighting. She says that kickboxing builds character for life in so many different ways. Marina strongly believes that the sport of kickboxing builds character, will power, and a feeling of your own persona as opposed to being a follower. You learn to keep a clear mind and think fast under pressure, to push through all obstacles even when it seems like there is no point in doing so. You become surrounded by similar strong minded and strong willed people that push you even further!

Aside from that Marina played table tennis from the mid 80s to late 90s in Russia, where her list of achievements is so long that it would not fit into this post! Her highlights include winning the Siberian regional championships, and also coaching and mentoring at the Olympic Reserve Specialized School in Novokuznetsk, Russia. Aside from that she also helped grow table tennis in Russia by organizing, and judging tournaments.

We are blessed to have such an experienced coach on our team, thank you Marina for joining us and now helping grow martial arts in Canada.
